When you think about collectible American classics that are hot on the market, you might picture a 2-door muscle car or maybe even a tricked out Tri-Five Chevy. Lots of cars come to mind when you think of all the makes and models available. It’s trucks, however, that are exploding in value.
Hagerty valuation tools are spot on when it comes to pricing out a classic vehicle. The latest Hagerty Vehicle Rating, which tracks how the value of a collectible vehicle is performing relative to the entire market, shows that the 1945-1968 Dodge Power Wagon and 1966-1977 Ford Bronco are really exploding.
The Hagerty Vehicle Rating is based on a scale of 0-100, a vehicle with a 50-point rating is setting the pace, so to speak, with the overall market. Collector vehicles above 50 are appreciating faster than average, while those below 50 are slacking.
Both the 1945-1968 Dodge Power Wagon and 1966-1977 Ford Bronco are tied in first place with a rating of 95! Many experts suspect that it is the return of the Ford Bronco in 2020 that is raising the interest in the older Bronco models.
Dodge’s Power Wagons are also showing major promise for all investors that got in early. Original Power Wagons have seen an increase of over 28% since Spring! Some of the highest selling versions are going for well over $200,000! Those numbers came as a surprise to everyone except those with keen insight or luck!
The 1973-1987 Chevrolet C/K Series Pickup, followed the Bronco and Power Wagon with a 94 rating as did the 1994-1996 Chevrolet Impala SS models. The 1976-1986 Jeep CJ-7, which was once at the top of the charts, finished out the top five with a rating of 93.
Looking at the rest of the rating list, you can see that trucks (SUV) are topping the charts. 12 of the top 25 spots belong to a truck or SUV, and Broncos are particularly strong. Three generations of Broncos are in the top 25, while the fourth (1980–86) is ranked 28th.
Only 9 out of the top 26 were actually cars which just goes to show… the numbers don’t lie. Right now, trucks are the hottest collectibles in the market.
