We recently got a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 in the shop for some rust removal, body work and then getting prepped for paint.
1969 was an epic year for Mustang and certainly set the standard for what a performance Mustang should be. There were six models to choose from including the GT, Boss 302, Boss 429, Shelby GT350 & GT500 as well as the Mach 1.
The Mach 1 package was only available in the ‘SportsRoof’ body style, otherwise known as the ‘Fastback’. It was not possible to get a Mach 1 convertible. There have also been many attempts to create resto-mod Mach 1 conversions, but most are not true Mach 1 models.
We sure have a real Mach 1 in the shop and were excited to get to work on it. Our goal is to fix the rust and then paint this 69 Mustang. It has apparent rust issues and some minor damage caused by an accident.
There were also some attempts in the past to repair the metal by someone else and we will need to reverse and fix those repair attempts as well.
In this first set of images you can see we are removing the bad metal in preparation to weld in new panels.
Before we start removing the bad metal, the first step was to strip the paint and seal the metal with epoxy. Then, we began to cut away the bad metal.
Be sure to check back soon for the next installment of the work done on this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 at Wilson Auto Repair.
